About Us: CAD aims to protect the lives and well-being of front-line climate justice activists (CJAs) working under oppressive and dangerous conditions. CAD, therefore, provides emergency response and safety resources while building a support network inside the climate justice movement. CAD was founded in 2021 out of the climate justice movement's need for safety support for Afghan CJAs and operates in a small team globally.

About the Role: This role will involve providing crucial support to our programs and initiatives in the region, ensuring that our efforts are contextually relevant and effective. The successful candidate will be a pivotal part of designing and orienting our incident response and capacity building efforts before, during and after the 31th Conference of the Parties under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) to take place on November 9–20 in Antalya, Turkiye.

About the Candidate: We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to serve as a Regional Consultant with expertise in Antalya, Turkiye. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of the political, social, and cultural landscape of the region and country, preferably through being from and having lived there or collaborating closely with locals. Context knowledge of the risks of local communities and climate justice activists in the region will be needed and experience working in the UNFCCC context would be beneficial, as well as familiarity with the Turkish and wider regional climate and social justice movements.

Key Responsibilities:

Regional Support Provider Mapping: Utilize your expertise and networks to map out and connect key support providers, organizations, and stakeholders in Turkiye and the wider region, relevant to support our COP31 incident response or benefit from it.

Risk Assessment: Input on revising and proofreading documents, reports, and risk assessments (RA) to ensure accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and relevance to the context on the ground in Turkiye.

Guidelines Development: Contribute to the development of guidelines and resources tailored to the specific safety needs and challenges faced by attendees to COP31. Provide insights and recommendations based on your understanding of the local context.

Training Coordination: Coordinate virtual training, workshops and events, including setting up registration forms, sending out Zoom invites, managing logistics, and liaising with trainers and participants. Ensure that training content is relevant and culturally appropriate.

Qualifications:

• In-depth understanding of the political, social, and human rights landscape in Turkiye,

including the Kurdish, Armenian and Palestinian solidarity movements

• Experience in document revision, proofreading, and guideline development

• Ability to coordinate and facilitate virtual events and training

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting

• Prior experience working with protection and/or human rights organizations

• Prior experience with risk analysis and holistic safety and security is preferred

• Fluency in English and Turkish with a preference for those also fluent in Arabic
