Who can receive support from CAD?
CAD supports climate justice activists and environmental defenders across the globe whose rights, physical well-being and livelihoods are being threatened.
What is a climate justice activist?
The term climate justice activist includes youth and elder organizers for climate justice and environmental defenders on all levels. This includes indigenous communities, movements or registered organisations for climate justice, and movements organising protests or climate education in MAPA (Most Affected People and Areas). A movement is any group of people working together to overcome a social or environmental problem. As climate justice has no universal definition, it is interpreted in each country’s individual context, but always includes a structural approach to problems to bring long-term change.
I’m unsure if I’m currently at risk. What should I do?
In this case, we recommend reaching out to CAD or another protection organization who can help assess the situation and develop a response plan with you accordingly. It’s better to reach out for support earlier than once the situation might have escalated already.
I'm not a CJA but I'm at risk. Can I request CAD support?
CAD’s goal is to provide support for climate justice activists in regions where climate activism is criminalised or dangerous. Unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to support members of civil society and other activists outside of the climate movement, but try our best to redirect every request we get to other organisations involved in these areas.

Can I reach out to CAD if I need funding for a campaign?
No, unfortunately CAD is not able to provide any financial support for campaigning.
Can I reach out to secure funding for a training session / workshop?
CAD usually doesn’t provide funding for training sessions as we provide free holistic safety & security workshops online which we tailor to the needs of your context and community. Where needed, we try to provide support with having stable internet access to ensure participation in the workshop is possible.
Why do I need to provide 2 references to CAD?
The verification is a crucial step to ensure that we provide support to defenders and activists within our mandate and to ensure that no one is impersonating you.
Can I become a volunteer with CAD?
We are currently not accepting any volunteer applications. Any open position will be communicated through official channels.
